will shill for friends / author's book reading tonight

no shame!
After shilling (twice!) for a documentary about I. M. Pei by Anne Makepeace (and others) shown on PBS on March 31 (March 31, 9 PM on PBS: I M Pei documentary, March 24, shilling for I M Pei), it is time for a Manhattan Loft Guy shout out to author and friend Lauren Belfer, who is doing a reading of her new novel (out today, so this is fresh news!), A Fierce Radiance.

Tonight, June 15 near Lincoln Center, and tomorrow, June 16 in (gasp) Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Details below.

Besides being a long-time Manhattan Loft Guy friend, Belfer is the author of the NY Times bestselling City Of Light, a novel set in her home town of Buffalo at the turn of the (last) century. No kidding around: I greatly enjoyed this novel, in which Belfer delivers a real sense of time and place.

The new novel is set closer to home (for Manhattan Loft Guy, certainly, and Belfer’s adopted long-time home). Here’s one PR paragraph:

A Fierce Radiance is at once a thriller, a love story, a family saga, and a window into American history, evoking the pure essence of war-time New York. It portrays the tumultuous early days of World War II, when many feared that America would lose the war, when even children were caught up in the sacrifices demanded by the nation’s mobilization, and when individuals clung fiercely to their loved ones, because no one could predict what tomorrow would bring.

Tonight at 7:30
Barnes & Noble
1972 Broadway

Tomorrow at 7:30
Greenlight Bookstore
686 Fulton St (at South Portland)

Come and get a book signed, if you can. Read the darn book anyway. I will.
